Vegan brownies with dulse

dulse brownies
Our recipe for chocolate brownies is a vegan twist on an old favourite. Moist, rich and chocolatey, these plant-based brownies can be enjoyed with a clear conscience! Avocado is a great option for vegan bakes. You can substitute with mashed banana, but make sure to adjust the sugar level in the recipe to account for the banana’s natural sweetness. You can also add chopped nuts or vegan chocolate chips for added texture. Serve this with a dollop of vegan yoghurt for extra creaminess!
This recipe makes 15-20 brownies
Cooking time: 35-40 mins
Prep time: 10 mins

Ingredients:

260g flour
200g sugar
75g cocoa powder

1 cup avocado
120ml oat milk
120ml water
10g Dulse flakes (or Arctic Ocean Greens)

1)
Preheat oven to 180°C.
2)
Line a baking tray roughly 30 x 35cm in size.
3)
In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, vanilla sugar and salt.
4)
In a separate bowl, beat together the mashed avocado, milk and water until creamy. Add the dulse and let sit for 5 minutes.
5)
Combine the wet and dry mixtures.
6)
Pour into the baking tray and bake for 35 – 40 minutes.

To check if the brownies are ready, insert a toothpick in the centre of the brownie. If the toothpick comes out clean with a few crumbs, it’s perfect!

Once ready, remove the brownie from the baking pan and let cool to room temperature. Cut into squares and enjoy with friends!
